Cortina’s Zigrino is a genuine top-grain cowhide embossed with a shagreen pattern. In Italian, Zigrino means “stingray” and historically the skin of a pearl rayfish or stingray was supremely valued for its round, closely-set calcified scales. Cortina created Zigrino to allow designers to showcase the beauty of a shagreen pattern in a sustainable manner. Made on hides which are only sourced as bi-products of the food industry, we replicate this iconic look and highlight its beauty with a varied collection of tipped, washes and other exotic looks on a pattern that repeats the central “jewel” every eight inches. When dyed, the result is a two-toned, translucent coloration throughout the shagreen pattern emboss that will surely make your clients take notice.
